Software

Business Plan Pro I recommend The Art of the Start–and I used Business Plan Pro software which provided me with template and through provoking questions. A few pointers–have a few professionals you trust review it as you go along–every few sections. It can be a big task, so breaking it up and getting feedback along the way was helpful for me. Determine what the purpose of your business plan is–self, banker, investor? Lastly, create a realistic implementation schedule….and DO IT!!!  (Kathleen Swahn, Swahn Engraving)

I noticed that you have no accounting firms on your resource list. I am currently working with 3 companies that have what they consider a complete business plan. While the product information and marketing plan is very good, they do not have a complete financial presentation that includes a forcasted Income Statement and Balance Sheet with the accompanying Statement of Cash Flow. This need to be prepared monthly for 3 years and quarterly for 2 years for a total of 5 years. I am just now helping them with this aspect of the plan.

It is only in doing this that they can determine how much cash is required and prepare the necessary plans to cover any shortfalls.

If is being presented to a bank or investor group it is also important that it is accurate, based on valid assumptions, and relevant.

      Hi Maria,

I’d like to finish our conversation some day when you have some time. Also
would like to hear what you think about “Beyond The Chicken Dance.”

      Hope all is well.

  4. What a spectacular post! I did a kind of blogging for dummies over on one of the CPA Marketing forums and I believed it was too easy for them, but the amount of emails I got asking questions just like what you addressed was incredible. As young people today we have grown up with computers, but it’s easy to forget that even individuals just a few years older have not! Really good post! :)
